Liberian Renaissance Education Complex

Monrovia, Liberia

In the West African nation of Liberia, The Liberian Renaissance Education Complex will be a centerpiece for redevelopment of educational and workforce infrastructure for a war torn country. The master plan Includes a full range of K-12 learning sites plus a national events center and joint use public amenities. The architectural and educational programming follow a model developed by the Big Picture Company with planning and architectural support from Concordia.

Local architectural vernacular, such as decorative patterns and Palaba Huts – traditional structures in which disputes are resolved – inspired the planning process. Given the national shortage of electrical power, the project will be completely energy independent. The Liberian Renaissance Education Complex is being developed in collaboration with a local Liberian architectural firm.
