The property at 1200 Opelousas Ave is currently a vacant 10-acre site situated within the Algiers neighborhood. The bounding streets, Atlantic Ave, Thayer Street, Eliza Street, and Opelousas Ave, each form a unique backdrop for the basis of design. The design narrative started with the immediate context, carefully arranging each of the desired uses in a location most suitable on site. The proposal consists of commercial space, a grocery store, single-family lots, Veteran housing, and workforce housing. The arrangement of uses surrounding the site pays respect to the adjacent context, with single-family houses situated along Atlantic and Thayer St, commercial and grocery along Opelousas Ave, and Veteran housing adjacent to Eliza St. The workforce housing units and off-street parking spaces are situated at the lot interior. The street fabric of Evelina street will continue through the site, encouraging connectivity of this new development to the surrounding neighborhood.
