Concordia facilitated a ten-meeting engagement process with the citizens of south Wood County to reprogram and redesign the historic Tribune Building. This building is a 20,000 sq. ft., located downtown, along the Wisconsin River. Until recently, the building was home to the local newspaper and two radio stations since 1960. The project aims to rejuvenate the riverfront, downtown, and community life in the region. Over 500 community residents participated in the programming process with cooperation and optimism as they planned new uses for the Tribune Building.
The results of the process demonstrated the value of honest and dedicated community engagement built on mutual trust. The project was awarded an Artplace America Grant and the American Planning Association of Wisconsin gave the project its annual Award for Urban Design. It will be LEED Platinum, incorporating artful rainwater harvesting throughout the site. The building will house a microbrewery, a brewpub cafe, a recreational rental facility, an arts classroom and makerspace, game room, playroom, conference room, and a new rooftop lounge overlooking the Wisconsin River.
