Concordia worked with Kamehameha Schools and the Wai‘anae Coast community to develop a vision for the delivery of high quality education to local children and their families. By working closely with counterparts on the Ka Pua team, Concordia was able to develop a comprehensive and inclusive strategy to engage the local population in formulating an education plan. Along with local meeting facilitators, Concordia and the Ka Pua team held a series of engagement meetings in both Wai‘anae and Nanakuli. At the meetings, participants were asked about their visions for education programming, and discussion was prompted by presenting local and national best-practices on a wide variety of education programming, from health to project-based learning, and to embracing Hawaiian culture as an essential curriculum component.
Participants in the community engagement process identified educational themes, programming, and facilities that would shape the future of the Wai‘anae Coast for all children and residents. Concordia synthesized the community’s feedback to create a document that clearly presented community ideals to serve as a guide for future facilities programming.
